How can we make 2017 bigger and better than 2016? We seize the day and take the time to enjoy our beautiful country and fascinating planet.
My New Year’s Resolution this year is to getaway on every long weekend! The years just seem to come and go by in a blur these days. Many memorable moments, new experiences and wonderful destinations later, we look ahead with dreams for the New Year. We live in a fabulous age when even far off places are just a plane ride away. As I ponder on this year gone by, I feel a bubbling energy as the new year approaches. So much to see! and so little time!
2016 wasn’t very generous with long weekends but 2017 promises to be full of little fun weekend getaways and two seriously epic long weekends in store. So plan early and get the best deals for the long Independence Day weekend in August and the fantastically timed Diwali weekends in October.
January to March are a great time to visit South East Asian destinations that enjoy wonderful spring weather at this time. Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong are good choices for an energetic vacation. Kick off this new year island hopping, cliff diving or maybe just have an exotic staycation weekend in the Maldives.
April to July are perfect for Euro trips and romantic getaways. Escape the hot Indian summer and explore Bali. Revel in the monsoons and drive through the scenic Nilgiris of Karnataka. Take that backpacking trip across Europe you have been planning for years.
In August, the big Independence Day holidays are the best time for a whale watching expedition on the Ningaloo reef in Australia. Or maybe this year you could visit Mauritius and have a fun family holiday.
September to November are when you should head north to the wild landscape of Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand. It’s a great season to see wildlife in abundance. Since winter has not set in yet, you could also visit Sikkim, Manali, or Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. This is where you will find some of the most picturesque snowy landscapes in India. Make full use of the Diwali holidays and experience the vibrant and colorful festival of lights as it is celebrated with much fanfare in North India.
December is the time for family, good food and some memorable winter getaways to celebrate the end of another great year. The Christmas weekend is perfect for visiting Singapore. The whole city is bedecked with Christmas decorations and lights and it is transformed into a winter wonderland you just have to experience at least once in your life.
To make things even easier for you to plan your holiday year ahead, here’s a handy calendar with all the long weekends we can look forward to in 2017.
See you in the New Year.
