India’s fabled wild life and forests have been immortalized in countless books over the years. After watching The Jungle Book movie recently, we were so nostalgic about our favorite childhood animal characters and their adventures in the forest, that we imagined what it would be like to explore the jungles of India.
After researching the most beautiful jungle locations, best wild life sightings and most unique lodges, I’ve narrowed down a few that made me want to run to the wild!
Aahana Resort – The Corbett Luxury Wilderness
Location: Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, India
Step into an oasis as you enter Aahana. Named after the “first rays of the rising sun”, this eco-friendly resort borders the national park. Perfect for those early morning jungle safari’s! This huge luxury resort 7 km from Ramnagar in Nainital is beautifully designed with enough style and warmth to keep you and your kids comfortable and pampered surrounded by the majestic jungle. There are several types of cozy rooms to choose from and even a villa if you are traveling in a group. There are so many activities available, I would suggest that you stay here for at least 5 days to experience all of it. And keep enough time for the Spa too! The buggy ride is a great favorite among kids, as is the kids pool.
Tathatsu Resorts – Caves, tents and villas
Location :Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh, India
How would you like to live in a cave!? If you’re bored with the typical hotels and resorts you find everywhere, go to Tathatsu! Feel like Mowgli when you stay in tents, villas or caves and experience the Pench national park in a completely different way. What’s more, I would definitely go visit the small potter’s village of Pachdhar about 16 km away from the hotel. While the accommodation is not luxurious, it will give you a rustic jungle village style experience. This is a family run resort and their warm hospitality and freshly cooked food comes highly recommended. You can go star-gazing, relax with a rejuvenating massage or try your hand at archery here! And you mustn’t miss the sighting of the famous ‘Collarwali Tigress’ and her cubs.
The Serai – Romantic safari
Location: Bandipur National Park, Karnataka, India
Relax in style at the edge of the Bandipur national park. Known for their wild elephant sightings and infinity pool, this is the perfect resort for a romantic weekend getaway. I would stay in one of their wood-paneled log cabins on stilts with the huge balcony overlooking the jungle. I can imagine sipping some wine as we listen to the soothing sounds of the forest as the sun sets. They also plan a wonderful pool side dinner for you on request. They get booked well in advance so make sure you plan that anniversary surprise well in advance too.
