Where: Melon Story food stall, Siam Paragon Mall, Bangkok
The kind lady behind the counter handed me an ice-cream that was black as night and the other side was green as the melon that was stuck into the side. The first thought that went through my head was the Batman villain Two-Face. When I saw the words Charcoal Melon Yogurt Ice cream that immediately piqued my interest.
What if it really tasted like charcoal? What if it was actually black seaweed ice-cream? What if the combination with honeydew melon was weird? It was a little stall setup during the Sakura festival and was easily missed. We had to push our way through the little crowd of eager people waiting for their cones. So I decided to take the plunge, rather take the lick.
It didn’t disappoint! I tried the duo of Charcoal and Melon. The honeydew melon flavor was fresh and sweet, which was balanced very well by the woodsy charcoal taste of the other side of the soft serve. They even offered a choice of waffle cones – chocolate or plain. This was so delicious, that we went back and had some more the next day! Then some more. You see, the cone felt heavy with the ice-cream, and the yogurt was thick and creamy. We tried to figure out what was in it, finally we gave up and just enjoyed the ride.
We just wished we could fill our suitcases with Melon Story’s sweet screams, and cross the border leaking charcoal, but sadly we had time for one last cone before we bit adieu. So if you are in Central Mall, look out for Melon Story. You can experience this weird exciting flavor yourself. From what I’ve read on their Facebook page, they are in Terminal 21 and a bunch of other malls too.
So now you know too! Just go for it!!
We found many stalls around Bangkok serving matcha and charcoal ice creams too, but this melon combination was by far the tastiest.
