For a mix of adventure, luxury fun in the sun, there’s no place I like better. So when planning my 10th wedding anniversary I was determined to do something different, something offbeat and thoroughly memorable. If you’re looking for a trip with equal parts adventure and relaxation, look no further. Your summer vacation is totally sorted. Here is an itinerary you can follow and customize to get you started on your vacation plans!
Day 1 : Nusa Penida
Land at Bali airport and take a taxi to Sanur. Book your boat ticket at the beach and take a fast boat to Nusa Penida. You could relax at your hotel, enjoy the view and rest on your first day. Or enjoy a swim at Crystal bay if you’re close by.
Day 2 : Nusa Penida
Full day sightseeing Tour of Nusa Penida: West coast. Check out Kelingking beach, Broken beach, Angels Billabong and watch the sunset at Crystal bay. Lots more info on these and more exciting destinations here.
Day 3 : Nusa Penida
Full day sightseeing Tour of Nusa Penida East coast. Check out the famous instagram worthy beaches of Atuh, Diamond beach and Thousand island view point. The view from the treehouse is spectacular too.
Day 4 : Nusa Penida – Seminyak
Enjoy a relaxing morning and check out of the hotel. Head back to Bali by boat. It’s time to dig into the food capital of Bali. Seminyak is busy, crowded and full of boutique stores and cafe’s. It’s fun to just stroll around and enjoy delicious food. One of my favorites for breakfast is Coffee Library. But my favorite place is ‘What the Truck’ for their Balinese taco’s and delicious mohito’s.
Day 5 : Seminyak
A day at Seminyak beach! you could learn surfing here as the waves are not too large. You can get an instructor to teach you and a surf board to practice for 200K IDR. It’s such fun and kids will love playing in the clean sand. Seminyak beach stretches all along to Double Six beach and beyond, so if you’d like to jogging on the sand its a good stretch. In the evenings, most of the beach cafes set up bean bags and live music so you can dine with your feet in the sand.
Day 6 : Seminyak – Ubud
Enjoy the beach and then check out of your hotel. It’s time for the jungle leg of our vacation. Ubud is normally about an hour away from Seminyak, but there was traffic so it took us about 2 hours. A taxi will cost you about 300k IDR. We checked into Tejaprana Resort & Spa and instantly felt relaxed. What a gorgeous private pool villa! I would recommend a day at the spa.
Day 7: Ubud
Green, ancient, peaceful Ubud. With its dense foliage and quiet roads lined with ornate and massive doorways opening into the neatest little courtyards of family temples and houses. It’s such an opposite to the Seminyak experience. Check into your hotel and relax. Do some yoga, get a massage, or go check out the town. Ubud center is where all the action is, with the market, shops, restaurants and temples lining the street.
Day 8: Ubud
Adventure time in Ubud! I would recommend spending the day having some fun outdoors. You can come back and enjoy your private pool villa later ok. Start with the exhilarating experience of swinging on the edge of a valley and climbing into a giant birdnest. Aloha Ubud is run by the Bali Swing company, and for 300k IDR per person it’s totally worth it. You must visit the sacred monkey forest too. Buy tickets there for 50k IDR per person.
Then go check out Kintamani and Mount Batur volcano, and don’t forget to taste the famous Kopi Luwak on your way there. Santi coffee plantation and chocolate farm is lovely, specially the coffee tasting. On the way back you may want to see the rarest shades of green, only visible at Ceking rice terraces at Tegallalang. Quite a sight! and the cafes on the edge of the mountain have the best view.
Travel Tips: There are quite a few serene and beautiful temples in the area as well. The Tirtha Empul, Tirtha Gangga, Puri Besakih and Gates of heaven at Lempuyang are absolutely stunning and if you have more time, you should really go and see their rare and majestic beauty. The carvings and ornate pillars around the region make you feel like you’re in an ancient city come to life again.
You could adjust the destinations and activities based on how many days you plan for your vacation, and on what kind of trip you’re looking for. I kept the relaxing and luxurious part of my trip for the very end so that we could rest and soak in the beauty of the place and enjoy the amazing memories we made during the holiday.
