The resident trio of cats at Iwane were enjoying their snooze last weekend as we stepped in from the humid street. The cafe had such a cozy and relaxed air about it. I could totally see myself settling in with a good book, a cat curled up at my feet and sipping some of their awesome iced caramel macchiato amidst the leafy plants and tables in the garden.
Iwane goes Nature is a garden cafe that’s been around longer than I’ve been alive. Even after visiting Bangkok several times I had somehow missed this little gem. I’m surprised I hadn’t come across it sooner. A well guarded local secret, this casual garden cafe is located on a quiet street near the Asoke bts station on Soi 23. (Check the address below.)
It’s quite a kid friendly cafe in the middle of the city, where kids have enough space to play and the cats and kittens are a welcome addition. The menu features a good selection of local and Japanese favorites, sodas and coffees. We dug into a hearty american breakfast and will definitely try their ricotta pancakes next time. I’ve heard their crispy pork and rice is one of their best dishes, however if you want something different, they offer fare like spaghetti as well.
I love that this cafe is still rocking a chill vibe right from the 70’s. The owner has decorated the place with his quirky sense of style, with little details around the place like the wooden flying bird in the backyard. His cats and kittens saunter around the garden and are very friendly and playful. Stroll around and try and spot the cool cat graffiti hiding on the walls.
