Do you know why Singapore is a top choice for a memorable family vacation?
I’ll tell you! It’s a mixed bag of experiences and treats for all ages, and you can get the best of city life, beaches and wildlife all on one trip. World class hotels, wild life experiences, beaches, fantastic food choices, and who knows.. you may even discover a few more while you’re there. The hotels are on the expensive side, but if you want to enjoy the city you won’t be in the hotel most of the day. So I would recommend choosing location over luxury here. Typically a hotel near Orchard road or near a metro station is an excellent choice and you can zip across the city easily with a bunch of kids in tow.
Our family are huge movie buffs, so naturally when we think of a trip to Singapore, we immediately put Universal studios at the top of the list. Frolic among your favorite larger than life movie characters. Check out the amusement park rides and get immersed in cinema come to life. The Jurassic park ride and The Mummy rides are a must try! Kids will love it and you can easily spend a day here and explore all the rides and experience centers at Universal Studios. The theme park is located on Sentosa island.
You will find ‘Inuka’ the cutest Polar Bear living in Singapore Zoo. This state of the art zoo is divided into zones and exhibits. You can explore different habitats and take the time to get to know of all the species homed there and learn how important conservation is. Don’t leave without seeing the pandas, pygmy hippos, the orangutans, white tigers, tapirs, and the ‘Fragile Forest’ rainforest. And wouldn’t you like to see the rescued baby pangolin? You can see him at the Night Safari.
Jurong bird park
Step into a rainbow of colors at this bird park. Colorful, majestic and awe inspiring, seeing these wild birds up close and personal is definitely going to be exciting. You can choose the 90 minute buggy ride with a guide to explore all the park zones. Remember to book at least 5 days in advance to get your preferred date. If you’re lucky, one of their resident friendly pelicans will waddle up to you to have a closer look. I would head straight to their Lorikeet flight aviary to feed those cute and friendly birdies first.
The island of fun, Sentosa hosts plenty of exciting and fun activities throughout the year. Choose the cable car to reach there with a 360 degree view of the island. Board at Mount Faber or Harbourfront Tower 2. Sentosa, with its beaches, dolphin zone, butterfly par and insect kingdom, food festivals, segway rides and much more is sure to keep the entire family entertained and happy on a vacation. You can download their tourist guide or get it at the entrance to plan your day. You’ll love it so much you may just stay there.
Palawan is a family favorite beach based at Sentosa island dotted with shops and eateries. For excellent clubs, watersports and restaurants hop over to Siloso beach and if you’re looking for a quiet afternoon by the sea, Tanjong is the choice for you.
Orchard Road is the ultimate destination for high quality shopping, showcasing local designers and great international brands as well. However, there are many more hidden shopping areas where you’ll be sure to come away with a good deal. There are plenty of outlet malls that have a mind boggling variety at unbelievable discounts. Mustafa center in Little India is for the techies and electronics buffs. Sneaker lovers and Bruce Lee fans can drool over the Onitsuka Tiger outlet at IMM at Jurong East street. IMM also has good fashion stores. Fashionistas, you don’t want to miss Charles & Kieth, Giordano and other brand’s at Anchorpoint on Alexandra road.
So much to do and so little time. Start planning your Singapore vacation ASAP, the Dussera and Diwali vacations are nearing. I hear its absolutely magical at Christmas time too.
